Message from Chairman Enchancing National Power Ladies and Gentlemen, The current year 2008 is a historical year for iron and steel industry in Indonesia, and also for other steel industries in the world. Some steel industries enjoy the advantages from the booming of steel, especially for integrated steel industries where less dependence on imported material. But in other side, some industries have to survive to get their raw material since some exporters, or the country of origin restricted the exportation of the semis and raw material. If any, th importers have to pay a very high price of raw material and semis, which then caused in competitiveness of their industries. |
The associations under GAPBESI (The Federation of Indonesia Iron and Steel Industry Association) then realized, they have to be stronger, whether in the upstream industries or in the downstream. Unification of members in GAPBESI is the best solution to become a powerful, credible and reliable iron and steel industry organization as a government partner in developing prospective national steel industries in the future.
Now, we are entering a new era. As per September 9th, 2008, after having a long discussion and preparation, a new organization of iron and steel industry association, named IISIA (The Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association), has been launched to public. The new organization has been encouraging all members, which was formerly as an individual association, becoming a unity in one organization, with a new spirit, to go hand in hand in the same direction to achieve the vision and mission.
As we are all aware, our country Indonesia has very big sources of raw material, energy and other supporting material for steel industries. An accurate planning has to be elaborated by all parties concerned, in order to maximize the utilization of these materials for national industries purpose, and measurable actions have to be taken soon. Without maximum effort, all these things will be hard to achieve, and our dream to become one of the most important steel producer in Asia will never come true. The further impact is then; our national steel producers will not be competitive forever.
I do believe, with a new spirit of new organization, where open communication, respect each other, and better coordination among members are becoming key factors to succeed in passing long road to achieve the vision . And at the end, I much expect, a strong, competitive, and friendly environment steel industry structure will be established in Indonesia.
Last but not least, in this occasion I have to convey my gratitude and high appreciation to all parties who have spent their valuable time to prepare and to process the embryo, until a new organization was born, that is The Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association.

In the name of God Which Is Single and The Most Merciful one. I receive with open arms and give appreciation to Aliance Association Producer of Steel Entire in Indonesia : The Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) which have an initiative for bookmaking entitle :
"IISIA Directory First Edition"
Like we all known that steel industry is strategic industry and become backbone for growth of industry in a nation, this matter because of steel industry is producer of steel product which accomplishment for requirement of manifacture industry base on metal and especial supporter development of construction and infrastructure sector.
With this book we expect information concerning growth and ability of industry in our country become spread over for domestic and widely international, so that very useful both for consumer, raw material supplier, technological vendor and also as cooperation reference between member of IISIA.
National industrial capacities of steel in this time equal to 6,5 million ton per year with the level of utilization reach mean 60,5% in average. Although during monetary crisis of steel industry is a lot decline, but growth of steel industrial product for the past 4 years had showed the existence of increase with growth equal to 3,13% in the year 2007. While the national steel industrial export development for the past 4 years had showed increase of US$ 882,6 Million in the year 2004 becoming US$1,8 Billion in the year 2007.
Our major problems which faced by national steel industry are height depend on raw material import, especially at the upstream steel industry, so that our national steel industry become not self-supporting and very depend on the condition of steel market world. This matter cause the lack of national steel industrial competitiveness compared to other states.
Generally industrial steel technology of Indonesia have left behind to be compared to other state technology especially marked with the large usage of energy consumption. Meanwhile our electricity and gas energy supplies are on the wane and the price of them are costly more expensive.
For the agenda of improving competitiveness independence national steel industry, government had planned exploiting of local natural resources programs as industrial raw material of steel. In this time we have started by development of iron making industry in south kalimantan, and some other investors have studied the possibility for development in similar industry at other area in Indonesia.
Beside that government is also pushing the development of 10.000 MW electricity power station being based on coal to fulfill requirement of more electrics energy that more competitive. And in business environment, government had also conducted some efforts to create better business environment, such as passing import cost tariff harmonization, tighter observation to smuggling, observation of standard application, and others. IISIA, as iron producer aliance organization and steel have very strategic role and position in moving forward to growth of iron industry and steel in Indonesia more efficiently, make-up of quality, cost and delivery, beside that it can also give constructive input for the agenda in improving industrial competitiveness of national steel.
Here in after, in the future we expect to build and develop our national steel industry become more reliable and competitive to be able to fulfill the rise of our domestic steel requirerment
Finally, I render thanks to the IISIA and member of which have participated active to develop national steel industry and by publishing of this book of
directory.
